Catakig Requirements & Recommendations
Before downloading or installing Catakig, you should ensure that your Mac has the following features:

MacOS version 7 or later
a PowerPC or 68020-40 CPU
Appearance Manager 1.0.1 or later, under MacOS pre-8.5 (file app_sit.hqx on this CD)
CFM-68K Runtime Enabler 4.0 or later, if using MacOS 7.x on a 680x0 Mac
a few megabytes of free space on your system disk
at least one Apple II ROM image file (see the Utils folder)
disk image files of any Apple II software you want to run
Catakig uses facilities of Apple's new Appearance Manager. Because of bugs and omissions in A.M. 1.0, version 1.0.1 or later is required. Under MacOS 8.5, the A.M. is bundled into the system, and the extension file is unnecessary.

On 680x0 Macs under MacOS 7.x, the CFM-68K Runtime Enabler extension is also required. This extension is bundled into MacOS 8.0 and later, so it isn't needed there, nor is it needed on PowerPC Macs under any system version. If you have MacOS 7.6, then you probably already have this file installed in your Extensions folder, but it wouldn't hurt to check.

The ROM Images and Disk Images pages discuss the two important types of support files you will also need. These files must be obtained separately, although a few sample disk images are supplied with Catakig's distribution.

Furthermore, though not strictly required, the following system features are recommended:

MacOS 7.6 or later
a screen capable of a 256-color mode
if using a 680x0 Mac, a CPU speed above 30 MHz
the ObjectSupportLib extension, if using MacOS 7.x
DiskCopy 6.3 or later
The features of ObjectSupportLib are rolled into MacOS 8.0 and later. If you have MacOS 7.6, then this file should already be in your Extensions folder.

DiskCopy is Apple's utility for creating, mounting, and manipulating disk images, and it should be present on your MacOS CD-ROM if you have one. You can also retrieve the most recent version from Apple's Web site. Although DiskCopy is most commonly used for Macintosh disk images, it can also be used for ProDOS disks, which makes it a useful companion utility for Catakig.
